Silver Lining

Silver Lining

It has been weeks of social distancing and it can still feel unreal. This time a few months ago, it would have been considered rude to stand 6 feet away from someone while waiting in a line, or for your food delivery driver to sit your food at the door and walk away. Never could we have imagined that every school in our region and around the nation would be closed we would have to commit to virtual happy hours and birthdays. So here we are in this new reality, now what! Life moves on, if you are fortunate to not have gotten laid off, you may be struggling to balance working from home while simultaneously being a parent in-between emails. If you were not so lucky and have lost you job, then you may be struggling to understand the unemployment situation while worrying if the checks will come before the next bills do. No matter the situation, this can be a confusing and stressful time.

Where are the silver linings? I am here to tell you that they are there, even in the midst of chaos. Take a minute and just do a 360 degree turn wherever you are right now. Take in the space you are in. Think of those that rely on you, as well as those that you rely on. Think of the funniest thing that has happened in your house over the past week. The light is there, today I challenge you to open your curtains or blinds, close your laptop, turn off the tv and invite yourself to be carefree by rocking out to your favorite jam from your high school years!!!!

You have the power to take control of your sanity and intentionally engage in self-care by expressing your thoughts and feelings to a board-approved therapist, instead of your partner, children, friends, or family members. Plus, you’ll gain new insight and techniques on how to control the uncontrollable.
